So I recently saw the following statistic: "According to a Harris survey, the average work week, including commute time, has jumped from 41 hours to nearly 47 hours since 1973." Who the heck is the Harris? I don't know about all of you but my work week is approx. 47 hours WITHOUT the commute. In fact, that is part of my employee contract and that is what I get paid for every pay check, 47 hours! I'm curious... Where does Harris live, 2 miles away from the office? Does this survey also include, work from home, work from the car, work from vacation, work while sleeping, oh yeah and lets not forget work on the weekends... (of course they did reference 'work week', maybe that is why Harris is so totally off on this estimation). And last but not least... did Harris consider the fact that not all of us live in a rural area and that his commute estimates are way off for major cities (even with those stupid car pool lanes). Cheers Harris, thanks for making our lives seem so easy!

I forget sometimes how much commute times adds up. For me, it tacks on 6-7 hours a week. For my brother, his commute adds up to 15 hours a week. Crazy the time we will spend trying to get to a place where we waste the majority of our time in the waking hours of our days!

The worst commute I had was 4 hours a day (2 hours each way). Right now I log about ten hours a week. I'm a firm believer in the if it's 28 miles to your destination it should take you 28 minutes. But well...that's never going to happen.

I spend nine hours a day at work, including lunch, and 45 mins. each way. That's 52.5 hours a week to work. He's wrong on my account. I think things have changed since the early 70's. They better have.

"Harris" is my teenage daughter-no joke, they even sent her a t-shirt for participating in their online surveys! She is able to walk to her part-time job, however, her dad and I commute 42 miles round trip.

I believe the Harris poll refers to a poll taken of people with the last name "Harris", as it is a very common name, and they generally have "the Average American" views.
