We've all had one of those type of co-workers haven't we true believers? The one that no matter what you tell them, they insist that their answer is right even if it's blatently obvious they are not? How they refuse to even ACKNOWLEDGE any other valid point offered to them?
Well, allow me to share with you a tale of one of those. Having worked with this individual for about two months now and been told I'm wrong somewhere in the ballpark of abot 2000(5-6 times a day) times from everything from someone's name to well...you get the picture. Heck of a morale booster by the way...
This past Friday, I pointed out something in an email that I believed already answered the question. Here's the scenario...two employee records weren't updating, but yet two other were. The two provided were the two that were...updating correctly. It said so verbatim in the email I received. I spoke with my co-worker about it (am still in that "probationary" period) and she proceeded to tell me that I needed to check two different databases and verify that 3 different records were the same. I must've had a perplexed look on my face because she proceeded to spend the next ten minutes explaining to me that the two provided were the ones having the issue.
Figuring I must've misinterpreted something, I began to walk back to my desk. I got about 5 feet away when I thought...NO! I'm right this time...I walked back over there and proceeded to reiterate what the EXACT line said. I dug my heels in and after about a 1/2 hour she finally relented that she may have been "partially" incorrect. I glanced over when I got back to my desk and saw her head down and head in her hands...not crying mind you but visibly agitated.
I do admit I smirked when I saw that, but always one to get the last word, she came up to me TODAY and told me how that if it would have been her, she would have sent all this other information over showing conclusively what these records proved. She then proceeded to take me through the entire 45 minute ordeal. And I found myself wondering, just how long did you spend on this over the weekend?
I mean the world will not end if you are indeed wrong. She is not my boss, not by any means, but is the golden goose according to my boss...I've made up my mind though, my goal was to be at her level when I started here...now I'm going to TAKE IT!
Other than her, this place has been fun to work at despite the fact that I am still...

Just read your story about your co-worker. Seems like we are in the same type of situation. I should clarify things a bit...true my boss thinks of her as the golden goose, but we are a 3 man team...him, me and her. I too am stuck in the fact that she had to train me and now tells me that what I do is wrong...

Watch out for the toes that you step on. How much seniority does she have? You already said that the boss thinks highly of her. You have to be so careful about telling people in the workplace that they are wrong without using tact. Be careful of the toes you're stepping on. One wrong step, and you could break your ankle.
