Last week I was eating a sandwich in our breakroom when a cowrker came over to me and sat across from me. She sat there for awhile staring at me until I finally looked up and said "What?" She acted like all huffy and immature and said "you don't KNOW?" and I said "nope". So she stormed off while I shrugged and continued to read my paper. She came back 10 minutes later with my bossa and they shut the door. Now...mind you..I'm ON MY LUNCH BREAK. So they sit down and my boss says we all need to talk. Well APPARENTLY I offended this woman by saying that my wife cooks for me. We were all talking earlier about who does what around each of our respective houses. In my case, my wife cooks. That's just the way it is. I guess I "offended" her because I said "and that's just the way I like it!" within earshot of her. WTF??? For crying out loud, I didn't say it in a manner that meant women should be stuck in the kitchen or whatever it is she thinks! I just simply meant that I am a terrible cook and I do take care of other stuff around the house so thank god my wife cooks kind of thing. So long story short I had to APOLOGIZE to this woman for offending her by saying I like that my wife cooks for me. I feel like I can't say anything but work related talk now. I didn't even think I should say sorry, I just did to appease everybody and keep the peace and so I could finish my d@mn sandwich.

I cannot believe this lady - she must be offended all day at the work place!! I would not have taken offense at the remark you made - in fact I think it is great that you pay her a compliment by saying that she does cook and you appreciate it. This lady needs to get a grip - if she does this too many times, she may regret it.

She's probably jelous, wishes she had a husband. Wait, no man would want her. I'd feel sorry for her, she'll probably have a nervous breakdown and she'll be gone. I'm a woman (sorry to say) and I swear I can't stand working with women. They are so petty and take everything personal. I'm so not like that. I'm the nicest most easy to get a long person ever. Unfortunately where I used to work I never fit in because I didn't spend my time gossiping with them and I was much prettier than them. Sorry chicks I can't change my DNA. Oh wait I could. I could eat like a pig and be just like you!

I shared this story with my husband, who works in a company that is very "sensitivity" oriented (Can't go to strip clubs or adult films with your coworkers because some woman might cry "harrassment," can't surf certain websites because someone might look over your shoulder and get offended," etc. Anyway, hubby says that her complaint is not a legal one because it involves your personal life and not your work life, and is not a form of harrassment. She really has no argument, and if she escalates it, you have the right to sue.

She was way oversensitive. You have a right to your own likes and dislikes. I'm sure your wife would be happy to know that you appreciate her cooking so much that you've told people at work how much you like her doing that for you. It's really none of that other woman's business, anyway.

She was just looking for something to be offended about and you probably could have fought it but did the more prudent thing by "apologizing" to shut the ninny up!
