You know you have it good when...

Hey y'all, in the midst of all of this negative talk I thought I'd share a little something positive...well at least a positive outlook anyway... the unemployment rate is somewhere around 4.9% in the US right now, and growing because of our enemies Katrina and Rita. Unemployment rates in other countries are approx. 4.7% in Japan, 9.8% in Germany, 9.6% in France, 8.6% in Italy. I guess I mention this because I'm happy I'm employed. Work is work, and only the lucky really love work everyday, or maybe I should say only fakers love work everyday. Nobody says you have to live with co-workers, just deal with them. Whatever doesn't kill you, makes you learn and grow...so cheer up. It is nice to have vent sessions, heck we even have them at work about our friends/family, but in the end of the day I am very thankful that I have a job, I have money to put food on the table, I have cloths to wear, and water to drink. So with that, maybe we should all find at least one thing to be thankful for... then the bad things might not seem so bad.

I used to love my job...I really really did. I did not fake it and I did not consider myself lucky. Sure they gave me a job offer, but I brought the skills to the table and interviewed well for it and accepted the job. No luck...just good fortune that I was prepared to embrace. ANYWAY...my job was a place I genuinely loved to go to for about 4 years. Then management changed and the company basically lost all common sense and idea that you should treat your employees as respected and valued members or your company flew out the window. The interesting thing here is that the company adopted a firm attitude of "be happy you have a job and stop complaining about the crappy situation". My problem with this is that people bought into this and forfeited any control they had over the situation and kept their tail between their legs. They swallowed it hook line and sinker and the company took advantage of that by pissing on them more and more. I say life is too short to spend it someplace that makes you miserable. When companies realize you are the one making the choice (NOT THEM) the workplace will be a happier and more enjoyable place to be because they'll treat us like they should be happy to have US.

It's good to hear someone who is happy with their situation. I was in the same situation where the job was good until the management changed - then all I heard was "that's why you get paid the big bucks" as they piled more and more "stuff" on you. When I started feeling physically sick whenever I thought about work, that's when I knew it was time to leave. Fortunately, I walked right into a great job (although without the "big bucks") and can now again say that I love my job and be sincere about it.

lots of people loved working for Jim when he owned the place. A lot of people who used to be there would probably rather be paid less and still work for him, than the corporation that bought it. People would bring their kids by to see the place, and were there for years. Now... well, they've fed us the line of change is good, and that its best for the people who left that they did, for some it was. One guy was there for 7 months as a temp waiting to be hired... he went to another company straight to a permanent position.
