I work at a local callcenter that has over the past year had one of the worst turnovers of any job I've had (even the temps are wondering about the new faces). They are currently unable to handle the volume of calls their getting of new hires from companies all over the US, have posted jobs on every job board I've looked at (trying to find something else), yet they keep making the job worse. Originaly people enjoyed working there, some since it began. The owner encouraged education, and family and talked to people. Ever since corperate America took over, bonuses have been cut out, they won't work with school schedules, and the phones are setup to log where we are at all times. Now with the phones set to tell them we're in the bathroom or on our scheduled break, that's not enough. Now we have to get a manager's permission to go to lunch or even the bathroom. (I seem to remember being a senior in high school you could just go to the bathroom.....) One of the Team Leads even threatened to fire someone if they went to the bathroom again. On a few occasions they've talked about taking away our breaktimes, and over the past few months, many haven't gotten to take them anyway. Yet they beg people to stay for overtime, and wonder why people won't and many leave the company period.

I COMPLETELY understand. I work for a company that has a call center also and the associates are overworked, underpay, underappreciated, and basically sh*t on everyday!

I think "C" makes a good point, when a company complains they can't find anyone to work for them in the US and use that as justification for "cheap labor" in China, perhaps their working conditions should be examined. Maybe they are really saying "We treat people so poorly that we have to get slave labor overseas to put up with it..."

This sounds terrible! And to think Kathy Lee Gifford is busy stopping sweat shops overseas! She needs to focus on your company. But in all seriousness...before someone quits they should make note of WHY they quit. Sounds terrible - sorry.

I think it's time for a new job! It's making me depressed just reading about it. Why do companies think they are entitled to take away all our civil liberties the minute we walk through their doors?

like anyone else, I don't think I have it worse than anyone in the world, but I do feel like being a citizen, I should have my rights. Other countries don't have a bill of rights, but we do. How has corporate america managed to take them away?

How has corporate America managed to take the Bill of Rights away? Easy. It never applied to them in the first place; the Bill of Rights applies to acts of Congress. Theoretically, Congress *could* extend the BoR by law to companies, but keep in mind that this was the same Congress that sat quietly by while "at-will" employment became the de facto standard in the US (and later even helped it become law, IIRC).

...must be the same outfits complaining that they can't find enough people here and insource or outsource from other countries on the cheap. No wonder once a company developes a revolving door policy word gets around and local talent will look elsewhere.
