3 Days On The Job Already In Trouble

I started working at a job doing something that I've never done before and is out of my comfort zone I came from a really bad situation where the company was not stable and I kind of jumped in to this.

I have been there 3 days and I'm in training. In the course of the day I was doing really well at the position picking it up quickly and paying close attention. But then I started noticing a pattern that they seemed to be having a really high turn over in personnel. (general observation) I asked the girl that was training me how long some of the people had been there. How long the HR person etc. which she told me she had only been there a week. and some of the others like no more than a year. Keep in mind that when I interviewed for the job I interviewed for and accepted, when I went to orientation found out that was not the job I was getting and that I would not be at the location they had told me in the interview I would be at. Well it got back to the VP that I had been asking questions, he pulled me aside and basically told me it was none of my business how long people had been there, that that I needed to mind my business do the job at hand and keep quiet. Granted maybe I asked the wrong person (the trainer), but when your leary of a company do you have a right to question why they are having such a high turn over? He told me it was inappropriate behavior that they are a growing company and going through some growing pains. Should you only ask questions about the task and nothing else and if you do have questions who should you ask them of? What should my response to this man have, my response was just "okay."

What have I got myself into.

Trust what your gut is telling you on this one. And that is RUN!!!!!!

They already lied to you about your job and location. That should be enough to break the deal. And they are being very secretive of things. A company that has nothing to hide and is on the "up and up" doesn't behave like this. Their behavior thus far send up HUGE red flags. You are right to have your eyebrows raised and you have every right to ask the questions you're asking. You are evaluating THEM as much as they are evaluating you.

Best of luck to you.

It sounds like your office is like our office. In our office they normally pick the brown nosers to train the newbies. They even make the trainers record who asks the most questions so they can target who is struggling. In the future don't ask your trainers anything you wouldn't want repeated. It's a life lesson.

Odds are, the VP is the reason for the turnover. Start making an exit strategy and if you are curious about the secrecy in the company, find the person that has been there the second longest(that isn't management) or the office gossipmonger. Endear yourself to them in some way and they will probably spill the beans on what has been going on. If you do have a gossipmonger, there is nothing they like better than hearing about altercations with management. You can innocently ask if they can give you some perspective on why he would have said this. But this is really all just for fun, the important part is exit strategy A.S.A.P..

GET OUT!!!!

This is why I recommend the following questions in the interview:

"What happened to the person who previously held this job?"

and

"Are there any cliques or bullies here, and what is your company policy regarding them?"

DANGER WILL ROBINSON DANGER!

New Company.
High Turn Around.
Getting Pulled Aside and told to shut up and work?

This could seriously be a SCAM company that trades stock. What this type of company does is get listed on the stock exchange with a SMALL company. They SELL stock like mad and then close doors and reopen under another name.

GET OUT NOW!

I agree with everyone that posted here - there are red flags and flairs going off!

I would consider asking about the compnay and their employees during the interview (even interviewing the employees before accepting the position) as being an astute employee.

Being told to shut up and get back to work by the VP ... hmmmm ... sounds like the olde 'command & control' management style back in the 30's. I would highly recommend looking elsewhere NOW! They have already lied to you! When they lied they lost all credibility .

Lying about the position and location would have been enough for me to already start searching for another job.

After working for many years for a company that thrived on lying to employees regarding pay, positions, promotions, and eventually getting laid off in retaliation for an EEO complaint, my advice is Start looking for another job yesterday.

You could also go with a temp agency and temp while you are looking. This place sounds really awful..

Lying seems to be a big componant these days. Look at what is going on today in the WH! The WH Admin has lied over 900 times. And what have we got in return? Dead people, recession, housing collapse, etc. along with "Trust me" from the WH! Leadership is build on trust my friends! Not lies! How could you trust ANYONE who constantly lies to you - I wouldn't! Therefore how can you follow them if you can't trust them?!?

I've been through what you are going though with the lying bosses. I even have them now! The current (temp) boss I have now while I am on light-duty is truthful! As is my regular boss! But from what I hear they are not well recieved by the other bosses.

I guess the term "Honor among thieves" applies to liars as well. I know that my regular boss is under the spotlight all the time now. He is constantly watching for knives aiming for his back while my temp boss is more or less 'out-of sight-out-of-mind' position. At least he is trying to do all the right things from what I have read! Problem is that he doesn't (and won't) have enough power to change things other then what is in his department. And even then some things are dictated down and he has no control over.

I learned many years ago--albeit not through work--that if you don't have trust you have nothing in any type of relationship. Without trust--you're just a victim waiting for the shoe to drop.

Listen to what everyone is saying and get out of there. You want to work for a company that is honest and has an open door policy. That means encouraging questions and given honest answers. Keep looking!
