I Finally Quit

Hi! I wrote about a year ago about my boss from hell and her mother. I finally took everyones advice and quit! Yeah!

Here's the problem: I found a new job and gave employer a two week notice. The day after giving her the notice I had several employees come into my office telling me all the horrible things she and her mother had been saying about me for months. I decided to just quit and not continue my two weeks out and I started my new job the next day. After I quit I received a phone call from the previous boss telling me I owed her money, and alot of other hurtful things. I told her off using some choice words. Since all of this happening in August, I have continued to my new job. The second day on the job my boss received a phone call from her giving her details of our phone conversation, telling her I cussed her and ect. I have had a former customer come to me and tell me that she quit doing business with her and that the former employer called her blaming me for her loosing her business. I have also had her claim that I am slandering her business and if she had proof she would sue me. She has accused me of doing dishonest things to other peoples accounts and called and told them this. It doesn't stop there this ex boss has been going into the business talking about where im at, whos at my house, and ect. The facts she doesn't know is that I have seen many customers from her business out and have given the simple explanation; " I quit because I found better employment".

This woman is driving me nuts!!! I left to get away from it but it is still causing stress in my life. I have kept to my self. This has to stop, its like she is trying to ruin my reputation. Got any suggestions on what I should do?

Frankly, at the very least, this sounds like harassment to me. It could possibly be slander (or libel, I can never remember which is which) as well, if anything she's been saying about you is untrue.

Regardless, it sounds like this is still stressing you out, and it's time to lay down the law, possibly literally (as in, see a lawyer about appropriate action), as far as your former boss is concerned.

Definitely harassment. A lawyer will write you a "knock it off or else" letter for less than a hundred bucks, might be worth it - and then if she keeps on going, time to hire a lawyer (on a percentage basis) and sue her for every last penny.

It is called slander if it is verbal (libel is in print) and if you have witnesses (like your new boss) then you may have a legal case against her as well as harassment. But remember that it is NOT slander if it is the truth!

An example is that if someone is going around saying that you are gay and in a court of law you are asked if you are gay and you say yes then it is not slander! I am just using this as an example! It is NOT slander or libel if it is the truth!

The problem I see is that you had some 'choice' words with her as well - not good. That could be used against you. As to the other employees - will they stand for you or will they be silent to protect their jobs?

And didn't you say your ex-boss knows where you live and who is at your house?!? Sounds like stocking to me. If that is the case you could get a restraining order against her.

But I do have a question for you ... How does you ex-boss know where you are working? Did you tell her?

Talk to a lawyer first and see what he/she would advise your next action should be.

But this may help you in your case (or at least in talking to a lawyer) - remember to use the IRAC method.

I = what is the issue (placed in the form of a question)?
R = what are the rules (the law)?
A = what is the analysis of case?
C = what is the conclution?

Also keep in mind 'what is the totality of the circumstance?' or the WHOLE picture!

And as to the legal fees, if you will the case the legal fees can be passed on to your ex-boss for compensentory fees. Sure hope this helps!

Im sure the employees will back me... they have all quit since. And similar things are happening to them. Thank to all of you for your help.

Wow, looks like she couldn't stand it that you got out from under her thumb! CK gave great advice, think carefully about hiring a lawyer and starting down that road.

Interesting statement, so she has no proof yet states you are slandering her? If she says you are slandering her then someone must have told her that you are slandering her yet if she has no proof...then no-one told her this!

Also, there are laws against defamation of professional character. She is telling anyone who will listen everything bad she can think of about you. Document every incident you come across, and take it to a lawyer. This person is trying to ruin your professional image and is trying to get you fired from your current job, and trying to prevent you from getting ANY job!
She's trying to %&@! with your livelihood....

Wow, what a witch. She obviously was upset with you leaving because she could not torture you anymore with her ridiculousness. She lost her scapegoat and that pisses people off. Keep proof of everything that she has done to you and take it to a lawyer if she does not stop.

Hire an Attorney(01/24/2008)
Hire an Attorney and have him write her a letter. Wash your hands of the entire mess and let him handle eveything for you....that's what they are paid to do. Oh, you might want to tape a conversation during a conference call with you, your attorney and her.
