I know we just met, but, um...can I borrow your pants?

Talk about embarassing... six years ago, on my second day on the job as a marketing assistant...I split my freakin pants. The minute it happened, my mind immediately went into panic mode. I knew that a portion of my job required routine trips to the mailroom which was up a flight of stairs...a person with split pants' worst nightmare. It was about 11 in the morning so I knew I couldn't make it the rest of the day without having to get up (or walk up stairs). I was forced to walk into my boss' office and explain and ask for permission to go home and change. My boss was a 'she' and I am a 'he' so it was doubly mortifying. The worst part is that she didn't want me to go home and declined my request (totally unexpected to me!) and informed me that one of my new coworkers was a runner and that he kept a stash of clothes there for when he came straight to work from running. Unbelievably, she blew the whole thing off and nonchalantly told me where he sat and to go over and ask him to borrow pants. She apparently was too busy to go over and introduce us and so me and my red face were forced to go over and scam pants off someone I had never met!!!!!! Fortunately the guy was cool and let me borrow his pants. I spent the rest of the day completely mortified, ashamed and grossed out about wearing some stranger's pants. A year later I found out I was the laughing stock of the floor for a whole summer. They nicknamed me "split pea". I swear my boss must have gotten some sort of sick kick out of the whole thing. %$#&@!!!!!
