I always try to offer the same advice to anyone looking to switch jobs but are worried about what there current employer thinks, for whatever reason. I am a believer in keeping doors open and avoiding the common bridge burning that often comes with changing job. My solution is simple: Lie. Make something up. Family reasons work great. Your husband landed a great new job and you are moving. Your commute is too long and you are looking to spend more time with the kids. You get the point. Let them know (think) that you are happy there but this cetain set of outside circumstances is why you are making the change. Who knows you may even get a counter offer or better yet a flex work schedule offer out of it.
In any case, don't feel guilty about it...they will lie to you in a heartbeat to keep you in the dark. So feel free to use the same strategy back.

I disagree. If you want companies to change, you should tell them exactly why you are leaving. They may appreciate it, and learn from it.
