The company would fold with out her...

I work in a small group of about 16 people for a large fortune 50 company.

There are 13 of us that man the phones, which are split into 2 teams. One team has 7, my team has 6.

When these teams were first assigned my supervisor sent an email to our team asking us to put down our lunchs and breaks so that we could have at least 3 people on the phones at all times. (As all incoming calls are tracked to the indvidual and if calls are missed we can have marks against us in our annual review.)

There were 5 of us that put down our lunchs and breaks, the other person refused to. Her reply, "Thanks, but no thanks. I don't have to." Fine, whatever. I left it alone. Three people signed up to go to lunch at noon, I took 12:30 and one other person took the 1pm lunch shift.

Over the last 3 months, this other person sits at her desk and complains about EVERYONE around her. The people she gets the work from, the people the work is going to, the people who sit next to her. All day she sits and says, "I want out of here so bad, but Supervisor X wouldn't know what to do without me! Work would be all messed up and people wouldn't know what is going on..."

Since she has this attitude, lunches have become a real issue. On more than one occasion she has taken off ten minutes before noon, or at quater after, leaving just me an another person on the phone line. Of course the boss never says anything to her about it.

One day, I was the only person on the phones (long story) and she got up to go to lunch. I asked her to stick around until one other person came back as we were getting slammed. What did she do? She threw a fit, went to the supervisor to complain of "harassment" and then went to lunch.

A couple of days ago, my phone was acting up, so I asked the rest of my co-workers if they were in the phone system. All I was doing was trying to see if I was in or not. When I asked Miss The Company would fold with out me, she again threw a fit. She started saying, "What does it matter if I'm in the phones, if you're in it'll show up on the monitor... I'm not telling you if I'm in. You're not my boss and don't control me." I tried telling her I didn't care if she was in or not, but was trying to see what was going on with my phone.

When I got it figured out, I could hear her at her desk: "Idiot co-workers don't know how to use the phone, then harass me. I swear if I ever left this job, they wouldn't know how to do anything. I do it all. Freaking morons." And crap like that all day long.

I swear one of these days, I'm going to go nuts on her. I've tried talking to her in a civil manner, but since she's the "key" our team, she won't hear it. She of course can't do any wrong.

ARRRRRGGGGGGHHHHH.

Sounds like a workplace bully. Can't work with others. And employees cannot communicate with her. Does management ever see her outbursts?

Agreed, you have a bully here. What she is doing is trying to make things so difficult no-one will DARE question her...and she that she hasn't got a clue as to what she is doing!

Same question as Twiz. Has management ever seen this? And why don't you guys as a group go and complain about her? She's suffering from Self-Importance syndrome. If you guys prove to her you are fine without her and more productive watch the fireworks!

Yep, this is a bully. Get rid of her before she finds a willing boss to sleep with and really starts causing damage to the company and you. Believe me, she'll try to get others written up or fired every time she gets upset.
P.S. Our old sleazy secretary was fond of saying that she was the only one who really worked at the radio station. Funny, my days always seemed jam-packed yet she was always seen flitting about and chatting on the phone by 10:30-11 am!

Here is an easy cure that I promote all I can. Sneak up behind her hit behind the knees with a baseball bat. When she buckles down to her knees hit her again in the head. End of problem!

Seriously, consider getting out of there. Life is too short to spend 40 hrs a week with a nutjob like her.

Love the bat idea Fighting. But leaving isn't going to solve the problem. Only way is to get her out and this can be done by grouping together and COMPLAIN. If only one individual does it they don't stand a chance.
