What is there to be done about a boss who hires a friend (who she says is only an acquaitance),although the interview was done at her house over dinner. Since her employment, most of their days consist of talking about their common friends and activities.
The type of work that we do is very high pressured and most everyone else gives 110%.
The employee treats everyone else like crap when the boss is not there and ALWAYS makes comments about how many times she talks to her after hours and their frequent emails during the work day. The boss does not treat anyone else like this and it is relly causing disscord with alot of employees. The only people that oversee the boss is the Board of Directors and they think she hung the moon and don't have a clue as to what goes on daily. If something doesn't change, I think that several people will quit, people that have been there a long time. The friend has only been there 6 months and has alot to learn about the job but can't be told anything.

It might be time to move on. Things like this usually happen when there is poor or no management. The same folks that would allow this kind of unprofessionalism can easily overlook your good deeds. Let them suffer the consequences of having two lazy chatterbugs around...

Unfortunately the boss is the boss and reposts to no one except the Board of Directors and they do not micro-manage the agancy. The employee has no supervisory position but uses the friendship as an underlying "threat" of after hour conversation with the boss. When she does things wrong (which is quite often)no one feels they can go to the boss and say anything.

Unfortunatly that is life and it is unfair. We all hate that answer, I know but remember the saying, "It's not what you know it's who you know". This is the case most of the time. What your boss and her friend do not realize is this will probably put a big strain on their friendship. Does your boss have a boss that you can go up the line and voice your complaints? Is the friend (now co-worker) doing anything that effects the effectivness of your job performance? If yes then you need to start the process up line. If it is just personality clashing then it is another issue one that you will have to look within your self to deal with.
