A little update on my current shady boss who I wrote about a few weeks ago.
I've discovered that he has some severe mood issues. For the last two weeks he's been on vacation with his family, and justifiably in a great mood. Still thanking me via email and phone call. I really have been his "remote" secretary for a long time because he just hasn't been here.
He seems like the type of person who is happy when he is away from work, then very "swingy" while he's at work. He does like to drink A LOT (we're talking about leaving the wife and kids at home 2 hours away while he stays out till 3 a.m.--on weeknights), so I don't know if it has something to do with that (his beer fix).
Yesterday I received a rejection notice for an document I had submitted, which I did EXACTLY the way I was trained. Boss has been spending his vacation auditing my work after all.
It was something where you have to click through all the details to figure out why I did what I did, because otherwise the front page is deceptive. Our system is screwy.
Initially, I was proud of myself for doing it RIGHT and figuring it out on my own with no help.
But....he rejects it saying, "Such and such and such amounts [which he could have figured out if he READ the links] are wrong and not within policy. Do this over." I write back and tell him that this is the only way to submit it and that he will have to read the links to find out what I did. He doesn't like the way the links are set up and he doesn't believe me, so he tells me to call up my trainer to find out how wrong I am.
So I end up calling my trainer to let her know what's going on, and she shows me an alternative method that we'll do just for him to shut him up.
I resubmit and he says thanks (on email). This morning I get ANOTHER rejection notice. "Document is still unacceptable. The numbers are not within policy because you listed them as X. X must be a certain dollar amount. Please review again."
The catch? I DIDN'T LIST THEM AS X. I LISTED THEM AS Y. VERY VERY CLEARLY--IF HE READ THE F$$$ LINKS!!
He's coming back today--we'll see what else comes up. We're face to face now, so these microcorrections will happen in front of everyone again, not over email. Greeeeeat.
I don't like this unpredictability. One day you're happy and pleased with me, the next day, "This speck of dust on your desk is in the wrong place. Fix it!" I hate wishy-washy people.

By the way, he admitted I was right and approved the report. HA! Also his mood changed for the better because he gets to leave early.
