Shameless Gossiping Busy-Body Cubemates

Don't you love it when a cubemate acts like they can't stand the same co-worker as you, says how tired they are of listening to this person constantly talk about themselves or gossip nasties, and yet, as of late is acting secretive and whispery with this person when I'm around. I mean it doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure out they're gossiping about you when they both stop talking to you suddenly, and shush when you walk in. This FencePost Mockingbird is the perfect example of the person who lives in a glass house and shouldn't throw rocks. I suppose if this person is willing to cheat on their significant other and think no one here's the wiser, then they'd be willing to repeat things on the other side of the fence, too. It sucks not being able to say anything to anyone where you work for fear of it being squeaked in the wrong ear. I'm thinking of confronting this fence rider to ask them WTF; what do you think?

Remind you of something?

Two words: SAY NOTHING

I work with people just like that! I wear an Ipod and just nod and smile at the catbirds. They are catty women, you would assume that other women in a male dominated field would be supportive and friendly, but that is truly not the case. It is sad to see people so blantantly manipulated. Women still find themselves judged on what they look like and wear especially if they are truly intelligent and capable, but mostly by other women! Did I miss something in womens rights movement! It is animal behavior at its finest! Lower primates. Just remind yourself that they are probably jealous, or are unsatisfied with something in their lives that you may have. Don't take it personally and rise above the lower primate behavior. Best wishes.

It happened to me. And because there were no cubicles between me and those two, it was hard to ignore even with my headphones on. It made my work that much harder. These two were women with very low self esteem. One of them was working for the other and felt the need to kiss her fat ugly ass. They were both as dumb as hell and found it necessary to sexually harrass me too. As much as I tried to block them out, I found it harder to do so with each passing day. My advice is to talk to their supervisor and if that can't be done, either ignore them, ask for a cubicle reassignment, or find a different job with hopefully better coworkers.

Also, you should never and I repeat never gossip about a co-worker with another co-worker! Just goes to show you, if you do not wish to be treated badly, do not do unto others which would offend or hurt you. I live by that golden rule, I work with people who are extremely insecure, it is a personality trait of many who enter academia, I never ever talk smack about anyone to someone I work with. I go home and tell my friends of family but I try not to let a negative word about anyone I work with pass my lips while I am at work. Even if I am on the verge of committing a homicide, I will go for a walk to cool off, but I will not stoop to that level. I come here to vent about people and I will never use their names. I was not always like that, but as I have gradually matured, I realize that if you do that to others it will come back to you, and taking your medicine is always bitter. I don't want to seem negative to you, I just thought I would offer you some advice. Also, in this day and age, you can not trust people you work with, they are stabbing their way to the top as well. Best wishes!
