Well, almost quit...but not quite there yet (Long Winded)

In June, I left my supervisor position in mutual fund accounting of 7 years, for an opportunity to work closer to home, and of course, for more money. The position was to focus more on annual reports, and less on daily accounting. I thought this was a great opportunity to see the entire picture of mutual fund accounting, as well as learn about new securities they handled, securities I would never get to see or learn about at my old job. I took the position, and I am a month and a week or so in, but already know this is not the job for me. There is no accounting work being done at the new place. Yes, their funds do contain the securities I wanted to learn about, however, all the actual accounting for them happens at the accounting agent, located in another state. I find all my tasks are centered around administrative work, and my accounting skills are going to waste. Everything new I've learned has centered around what paperwork needs to be filed with SEC. Most often, I'm plucking numbers off of a spreadsheet, and arranging them into financial statements. I want to know where those numbers are coming from, I don't want to just plug them. I have pretty much already decided to quit. To find a job doing the actual accounting again. I have decided to wait until I hit three months (to ensure my recruiter gets paid for placing me, as I'd like him to place me again), and then to take a month off. I want the month because I have not had a vacation all year, and undoubtedly wouldn't get one at a new company, as it's nearing the end of the year. Also, I have several home improvement projects that need to be completed some time this century. Money isn't a concern, I plan on prepaying my mortgage through December, to be on the safe side, and I have enough in savings to support myself for at least two years, though, if the number of recruiter solicitations I get a day are any indication, I think when I begin searching for a job again in November, I shouldn't have too much of a problem. I feel kind of guilty that I'm leaving after only three months, but honestly, I cannot see myself doing this work for six months, much less another 7 years. Why beat a dead horse when I don't have to? If anyone can poke any holes in my plan, I'd appreciate you doing so, I think I'm prepared to do this, but would just like to have all my bases covered, and want to make sure I'm not missing anything. Thanks!

It seems like you have got a good plan as long as you have the resources to carry from this job to the next. Good luck. I wish I could do the same, unfortunately, I live pay check to pay check. Best wishes!

Good plan! Same thing happened to my husband...sometimes it just doesn't work out. Don't spin your wheels and waste your life, do what you really want to do.
