The article I'm blogging about today is about how to turn around a bad day at work. I read a lot of these WikiHow articles since they always show up on my Google homepage. Most of them are cheesy and leave me saying, "What the hell? Who wrote this piece of crap?". But I love this one. It's full of realistic advice and validation.
Growing up in a family where you were supposed to just buck it up everyday and not express negative feelings or unhappiness, I always wholeheartedly appreciate when someone says, "It's OK to have a bad day" or "It's OK not to put up with this crap". Because it is! I can't stand when you read articles that sugar coat everything and tell you that if you just approached things differently, you'd see it more positively and accept it. I also can't stand the people who preach constant positivity and tell you that if you only had a positive attitude like they did, the world would be roses---like that ridiculous Who Moved My Cheese franchise.
Well sometimes the world isn't roses, dammit! Sometimes your job really does suck and sometimes your boss really is the devil incarnate. And sometimes you just have a bad day. And there's no reason why you aren't entitled to it!
So when I read articles that acknowledge that there are bad days and that bad days are OK, justifiable and even healthy, I jump for joy. And this one is particularly good because it talks about doing some introspection about why you had the bad day. It helps you learn from it. And most importantly it gives you very constructive ways to deal with the bad day or turn it around. It even gets a little humorous in the end with the Number 9 tip of "Go Postal". Check out the link to the article below and then if you would like, offer some tips to us JobSchmobbers on how you deal with a bad day.

breathing excersise help so much. Plus extra hang out time in the bathroom and stretches are good.

Alright...I'll share my secret in hopes it can help someone else out there! =) I go to the mall at lunch and I buy two Mrs. Fields semi-sweet chocolate chip cookies (WITH NUTS!) and an ice cold coke and I walk around. If it's a really bad day, I'll buy something from Bath and Body Works on top of it. They have a great stress relief aromatherapy line that makes me so happy. It's the simple things in life---like chocolate!

Retail therapy! I walk and then run and then I start swearing, kicking and throwing things. A real temper tantrum. Ha ha. Or I just find something to laugh about or if I am completely anxious about something, I try to visualize the worse case scenario and make plans of actions.

These are all great ideas! I've done retail therapy, exercise therapy, bath therapy and kitchen therapy.
Having outside diversions is also helpful. I usually get online and visit a site like JobSchmob or maybe a Yahoo group that I belong to. Or, I call a friend — several friends are in bad situations, too. In fact, just about everyone I know is in a bad job situation somehow.
