Bonehead Interviewer

Worst interview I've had was about 4-5 months ago. I went to interview for a secretarial position at a company that built homes marketed to senior citizens. I waited for 10 minutes before I was directed into a room with a table, chairs, & TV set. The person who showed me into the room turned on a video & scurried off. Didn't see her ever again.
The video was about 20 minutes long & talked about the company. All I remember is some older gentleman talking about how he liked that the employees held his hand & talked slowly to him. Another older fellow mentioned that he woke up in his new home, not remembering where he was. He would try to "call downstairs to check out" of his house.
So I'm watching, thinking, "Great, they sell homes to older ppl who may not know what they're sinking my money into. Lovely."
A 40-something redheaded woman came in about 10 minutes after the video ended. She rambled on about how WONDERFUL her company was & how warm the room we were in was. Uh...ok.
She asked the generic questions & got defensive when I asked her anything about the company. She DID mention that she got rid of the last secretary because she was a "bonehead." (!!)
She then had me fill out an "assessment test" & I left as soon as I could afterwards. I knew I didn't want that job...plus, it was a good 30 minute drive from my home. Needless to say, I didn't get the job. WHOO HOO! I like the job I have now much moreso than I would have liked the other one.

Sounds very much like an interview I had with a higg-tech company in Madison, Wis. The owner, who was intereviewing me, made me wait for about 30 minutes. She left the interview several times to take phone calls, badmouthed past employees, and ridiculed me. Finally, she asked me to do a small project for the company, telling me it was part of the interview and that it would take several hours. At that point, I thanked her for her time, but said the job would not be a good fit for me. I did this one other time, when another interviewer was equally terrible. These people are clueless. Who wants to work for them?

I had a similar interview where the woman interviewing me insisted on gossipping about everybody that worked for her. This one's a ho, this one's overweight, this one's a bad mother, etc... She despised one poor guy simply because he wore a leather biker jacket to work. When she told me this part, she put her hand to mouth and whispered the words "biker jacket" as if someone heard her theyy woud beat her up.

Great story! I once interviewed for a counseling job at a drup rehab facility. I was interviewed by six women-not to be sexist, but where are the guys? The initial questions involved my counseling experience, would I go on work projects with the clients, meetings, crisis intervention, etc.
The direction of the interview abruptly changed-would I scrub toilets? Would I vacuum out staff members personal vehicles? Would I cook meals for the entire staff and residents? I realized that the folks around the table were trying to shuck to jobs they didn't like unto some poor unsuspecting interviewee. I stood up, announced that the position was not for me and made a bee-line for the door. I later saw the woman who was in charge of the facility renting a ton of porn at the local video store-guess she was in charge of movie night!!

I went to the interview one afternoon, got channelled through HR, to this manager, to that manager, got the 5c tour, and was in the big cheese's office for the last interviewing, after 3+ hours. Then his secretary pops in while we're talking to say, out loud, the woman they'd offered the job to this morning had accepted it.
What was so hard about calling me in the morning and saying, can we set up another appointment, we have offered the job to someone else and are waiting for acceptance/refusal ? Wasted my whole day !

WOW! This is great affirmation. I was beginning to think I had a sign on my back (easy target) at some of the interviews I have had. Thanks for sharing your experiences.
