It's no wonder

It's no wonder the bosses are jerks, if I had to listen to all of you cry babies all day, I would be a jerk too. Quit bothering the bosses about petty crap and do your job. If you all would put as much energy into your work ethics as much as you do your negative attitudes Showa at Blanchester would be a better place. Quit worrying about what the other people are doing or not doing. Just worry about what you have to do. I am proud to work a Showa and I have been here 11yrs. If you dont like it QUIT.

You can't 'broad paint brush' things like this just because you're on the "green side of the fence", buddy. Take those rose colored management glasses off, not all disgruntled employees are a bunch of lazy whiners, most have legitimate issues due to inept and unqualified management and defunct or archaic business processes. Alternatively, not all hard ass bosses are jerks; some are just hard working individuals with strong work ethics that are forced to baby-sit a bunch of slackers from 9 to 5, which I suspect is your situation based on your sentiments. Either way, it does no one any good to generalize like that, it just reinforces the negative attitudes that people have towards management and perpetuates the problem.

I am a manager too and my rules are simple:

1) Pay people fairly, if they earned it, pay them - don't shame them into having to ask to get paid for what you asked them to work.

2) Give them time off without rolling your eyeballs, intimidating or making them fear for their jobs so they don't have to bullshit call in sick or quit.

3)Respect them, don't let your authority go to your head, treat them like adults, don't micromanage, nitpick, browbeat, or place unreasonable expectations on them..

Sound fair?

Never had a person quit on me yet, high productivity, always meet deadlines, and have earned respect thru admiration not fear. My policies separate the cream from the curds and when I need to terminate someone there's no question of legitimacy and it's transparent to my team, this way people aren't walking around on eggshells thinking their next. Some managers find these Change Management Techniques to be too much 'effort'.

These people should not be managers, and might find Cuba to be a more suitable environment..

Yep, I'd like to add that ordering your employees to do 14 hours worth of work in 8 hours and then expecting the work to be done and throwing a temper tantrum when you don't get your way...is a good way to extinguish any work ethic remaining.
