I don't deserve this

I've been working here for 3 years longer than my current boss has. I've never liked him. I can't find much that is redeeming about him. Here's my biggest problem with him. He WILL NOT LEAVE ME ALONE SO I CAN WORK. I can't even complete a single thought in my head without him coming in my office. He's come in twice just since I've started typing this. Six sentences and he's been in here twice. Yesterday he spent 90% of the day in my office. Talking about NOTHING that has anything to do with me or my job. Did you know he started going bald in his 30's? Do you want to know all about his wife's relatives? Or his political opinions? BECAUSE I DON'T. It's bad enough that I have to work with him at all. And yes! I've been looking for another job - unfortunately there's nothing out there for me right now. But when there is - I'm out of here so fast smoke will be coming out behind me. Yesterday twice he came in just as I was getting up to get a drink and once when I was leaving to go to the bathroom. He sat there and waited until I returned. Sometimes he just sits there. Once he got frustrated because I was working (I was doing payables and pay roll) and he said, "Do you want to talk to me or do you want to work?" WHAT? I finally told him that I am here to WORK. He still didn't leave. All these years I've worked with him and despised him. Now, for the past 5 months he has become even more unbearable. And there is no one above him. He is the boss man. So I can't do anything about it. It's torturous hell for me to spend any amount of time with him and now he thinks we're friends and he can just "visit" with me all day every day. Even when he leaves he calls me on his cell phone about 8- 10 times and he's just gone for an hour! There is nothing to do about it except endure until I can find something else. I pray that something else will open up for me. Has anyone else ever dealt with a boss that's a leach like this?

Sounds like this guy doesn't have enough work to do. Or he has a thing for you. Either way I would start injecting work related questions into the conversation. The more you talk about the work, the less he will probably want to talk to you... =)

time to start looking for a new job. check discreetly if you boss is taking notes and inventing reasons to fire you. he may be looking for any mistakes likely to happen during his talkative visits. this also could be a prelude to a layoff or firing with cause. he won't let you work but i bet he will complain that your output is slowing. i doubt that he suddenly fell madly in love with you.
