janitorial services not to work for

I was working for a person that fires people over the phone for no reason, will give no reason, and has fired 6 people in less that 2 months. I was one of the people that got one of the phone calls one day and I was told to return my things and the paycheck they had for me would be sent to me. It has been a week and no check has arrived! The checks are usually recieved within two days of being issued. I have made repeated calls to the "boss" and they go unanswered as did the call requesting the reason for being fired. This comapny is about the worst I have ever seen in my life! This company is a rip off to anyone that hires them and a big mistake for asnyone that works for them.

Since they are not returning calls then I would show up in person. I would also get some advice as to the missing paycheck!

An employer is not allowed to keep your paycheck. Contact the Department of Labor and Industry. Find them under the blue pages of your phone book.

Depends on the State laws. Many have been weakened and enforcement can be difficult.
Research if you can sue the business in small claims court. If nothing else there will be a record of the business having been sued. Some have the decency to be embarrassed.
Another tip off is a running ad looking for employees and a bad business with a revolving door policy. Check if the business is registered or licensed (when applicable)
Before working for another service, check the BBB for wage nonpayment complaints. The records are not always complete but it helps, ditto for court records if your state gives you access.
I hate this kind of business.

Thanks WageSlave! That is what I was thinking but for some reason I had a memory failure :->
In my opinion I think that there will be many other shady dealings like this in the very near future.

It sounds like this company/boss has a pattern of ripping people off by firing them and then withholding their paycheck.

Thelma posted my thoughts. It sounds like the company hires people, works them, then fires them and keeps the paycheck. Is this a new company?

this is Queen B again adding to the story. I have called as I said and today when I called I got the "no calls being accepted at this number" recording. I used a different number and got through and laid it on the line...my money is to be in my hand by Friday or I will file the wage claim form I was sent when I filed my complaint against you with the Labor Department. I also know that you are in violation of IC 22-2-9 and this is a violation of our state constitution and I can and will sue you for what you owe me, court costs, and attorney fees. I think I may ask for punitive damages at this point also as it has caused me finacial hardship. But if she wants to block every single call that comes in to her number she better be banswering me soon or sending me my wages, I have a LOT of different numbers to call her from and I have but only begun.

If you make such statements make sure you can back them up - they may just call your bluff!

What you have done so far is great! Now if you want this resolved faster put everything you plan to do in writing and send it to them by certified mail. Telling them you mean business is a great first step but certified mail makes them accountable because someone has to sign for it. If you never have sent certified mail go to the post office and fill out a green post card. It costs a few dollars more. If you don't know how to fill it out right the post office employees will help you. This will work and you will get your money. Good Luck!

Plus!...Sending certified mail is just a payback joy in itself! Someone has to get their butt to the post office, wait in line, then wait longer for the postal worker to locate the letter....And if you live in a state with snow--the inconvenience is really an inconvenience. Definitely worth the 2 bucks it costs to send something certified/registered!!!

Now I'm thinking that I may send all the jerks I've worked for empty envelopes but by registered mail! Fun!
CK(12/07/2007)
Catbox - Just make sure you have a return address that has "Atty of Law" or "Esq" somewhere in there!
Wage Slave(12/07/2007)
Catbox is right, every time I have sent certified mail it shook up the toad who has to sign for it. It is inconvenient and it grabs their attention. If you know the owner's name, address to him or her. Use your own name and address so they remember your name. Please know all these posters care about you. I hope you do everything we suggested.
