The Cute Princess Gets The Boot

About a year ago my middle-aged boss hired a distant friend's twenty-year-old daughter to do some part-time secretarial work at our company. She was incredibly beautiful and every guy who came into our company to pick up their order tried to pick her up.

I thought she was kind of sweet but naive. She was a religious girl and she went overseas every year for some kind of charity work or something. Very friendly, I liked her.

Anyway, it isn't long before I notice that on the days she's there our boss spends waaay too much time up front talking to her. Since my office is right next to reception I can overhear what they're saying but I'm usually working so I don't care until I notice what is going on.

One day, I hear him talking about his first marriage and about how his wife was just eighteen when they got hitched and how it dissolved. And he says this immortal line:

"I pretty much usually get along better with younger girls."

'OMG!' I think, 'He's HITTING ON HER! BWAHAHAHAHA!'

It's really pathetic listening to a 45 yr-old child-man try to chat up someone who can't even drink legally. Does she catch onto this? Beats me, she probably gets this all the time anyway- for her, this must be normal. The girl probably hasn't met an intelligent man in her life.

Time goes on and I start getting annoyed, after all, he's supposed to be, y'know, keeping the company going. But no, he's up front complaining about his current wife, a perfectly nice woman and mother to his two young daughters.

The situation has gone from humorous to sad and frightening as he starts inviting her to his house on weekends to 'jam' (they both play guitar (imagine that situation from the movie Juno and you'll get the whole creepy vibe- right on the nose)) and taking her out to sushi bars for lunch. I imagine that if he keeps up his shenanigans that the company will not survive a divorce and I get nervous about my job.

Also, some of the other people in the company started to complain that Princess:

1. complained incessantly when asked to take on another task not related to answering phones or filing
2. worked as slowly as possible
3. went on MySpace all day
4. and because of that the front computer was infected with a virus.

But the boss was in love (brrr!) And his wife (who came in for a few hours a week to do the bookkeeping) was making sniping comments to him about 'his girlfriend.'

It wasn't until Princess left for the summer for this year's mission trip that we got rid of her. After a couple of months the boss and his wife settled down and seemed to get along again.

Then Princess comes back in the fall and just shows up without calling. She hangs around and talks to the boss for a while but he sends her packing.

I think the boss' wife put her foot down :)

Princess comes back the next day and the boss pretends not to be there.

Princess calls and he pretends not to be there.

Princess tries to chat up her former coworkers to find out what's going on and then...

I don't see her anymore until one day I walk into a coffee shop and run into her on her way to a smoke break.

She has no idea what happened and I shrug and say 'well, the company's tightening the budget but I'm sure he'll give you a call once things are good again.'

God, I hope I was lying.

Ahhhhh ... the classic "my wife doesn't understand me" line. The wife probablt did put her foot down - she was probably had stilettos on and was stepping on some soft fleshy spot that he cherishes.

But the intern doesn't sound all so innocent as you make her out to be. She could be looking for a "sugar-daddy."

Dumber than a Catbox full of sh*t(04/18/2008)
I think Miss 20 yr. old --is just that--20. And stupid. Kids are stupid. I have 20 years behind me to prove it--having taught high school for 20 years. These days and for the last 15 years they are too stupid to even know that people won't help you when you are assholes to them. She is a stupid kid. Good thing she has looks. I have kids who have no intelligence, drive, looks or interpersonal skills. And no family money. They need at least one of the above to have a prayer to get anywhere. At least she has looks. Think Hef's 3 girlfriends....

Why do you think my poster name is what it is--because most people are dumber than a catbox full of sh*t. 'Nuff said.

I didn't get the feeling that she was up to anything sinister, I just figured she was used to people kissing her shapely behind and the end result was a needed slap in the face. I still wonder if it would've done any good to tell her the truth of the matter but at the time I had no idea if she was still friendly with the boss (or attempting to be) and I didn't want to bring any grief on myself.

Yep, it's a sad day when Princess has to wake up and smell the coffee. Just imagine what it's like when they're pushing 30 and their looks are fading - and the Cute Sweet Bubbly appearance just won't cover the fact that they're lousy, lazy workers. Our Princess got fired after she just couldn't get to work on time. She got a two-week suspension for lates, and then...the FIRST day she was due back, she was late again, and she only lived 20 minutes away from the job. They DO get their due later on in life, at least sometimes. It's still amazing that dumb men persist in hiring these cute little Princesses. I've seen very few Pretty People that did any real work.

Good for the wife for stomping on that idiot man. He probably still doesn't understand what he did wrong - and he was also completely wrong that 'his wife doesn't understand him'. She understood him perfectly !

My respect for the boss' wife went way up after this, she's a smarter cookie than PHB and I love dealing with her.
