There was a meeting regarding our 'Drop' retirement system. (I'm not elegible) One co-worker went to it because she is wanting to go into 'Drop.' What I had heard is that this meeting ended up "Standing room only!" The HR rep said that this is the largest group in the history for meeting regarding retirement.
And it is no wonder the room was packed! It appears that there are many people who are wanting out! So it isn't just my department or organization but EVERYONE from other departments and oranization within! People are just getting fed-up with the B.S. from managers!
I know that just as soon as the economy picks up again that there will be a massive exidus of brains walking out the door! Even though we hire many contrator in our organization, some are starting to refuse working with our organization (at least those not as desperate for work). It is starting to become obvious that our organization is starting to have a bad reputation in the area.
I mean come on, you honestly don't think these contractors at these temp agencies don't talk to each other?!? Oh, I'm sorry ... I forgot, it is US who don't talk to each other! Even if we are in the office next door - so long as the other person works in a different department, we DON'T talk! and if we DO then management will come down our throat! Hell, I have even seen members refusing to even call their customers!
My friend also told me (and I have yet to confirm) that our CIO is wanting "young blood" in the organization. IF he has said that to others then someone could build a case of age discrimination against him. This would also support the reasoning why some qualified people are overlooked - because of their age! That will also explain why I am also overlooked despite my qualifiactions and education.
My organization has been through several lawsuits only to be settled out of court. I know of one former co-worker who filed with the EEOC ... but the EEOC is sooooo backed up with cases. And to think that this is a GOVERNMENT AGENCY that is being sued by employees! I know several employees who have lawyers just to protect themselves from our employer! Ahhhh ... your tax dollars at work!

Productivity drops, folks start surfing the net more (looking for new jobs). Then the top talent leaves, since they can... and the company starts to scramble to recover... but it is too late.
They then enter into a cycle of trying various contracting firms... only to realize the people they had working for them (who left) were better than any contracting company... and now they try to re-hire for those positions... only now the word is out on the street that this company treats their employees like crap... so they end up getting job applicants who are not qualified... and the cycle goes round and round... =)

I was told that because the meeting ended up 'standing room only' that they had to have a second meeting. Not sure how full that was but I would think it was much the same - full.
It's an indication that people are ready to leave!
