Rocketsled to Hell Written by CK on 02/13/2012Our management is into micromanagement mode. Manager have nothing better to do than be critics - focusing on the smallest detail. Every minute is counted - people called up if you are two minutes late clockking in, one minute clocking out. Misspell a word? Cause for a verbal warning! If you are not perfect then you get verbal warnings.

The bosses are either in the room with us or watching us on a camera ... What they are wanting are machines.

One employee states that management are wanting to make life so bad that people (employees) will quit only to be replaced with a low-wage, no-benefit contractor.

Even though I live in a right-to-work state, I e-mailed the CWA for information on starting a Union.

My problem is that I have pension benefits tied up - making it hard to just quit.

A lot of companies seem to focus on pennies and lose sight of the true assets. You may be right that they are trying to push out some to make room for cheap labor. It is unfortunate. If only companies realized that good, happy workers are far more efficient than "prisoners" or cheap labor. In situations like this, there isn't much that can be done. Those just above you are probably scrutinized closely by those above them. They can't really empathize. Too busy cowering and covering their own butts. It shows a great deal of maturity that you are both conscious of your equity (pension) and trying to think of others (union). That maturity may be what sets you apart and gets you by. Good luck in your endeavors.
