Still Blaming it on 9/11

I work for a fortune 5oo co. under the servicemaster name..I work in San Diego and in 2003 our main boss for the region told us there would be no raises for the employees due to the effects of 9/11 our company posted a huge profit that year..then 2004.came around..still 9/11...but the big bosses still got bonuses..employees get dry humped..then that boss got fired..the new boss got his job, raise, benefits.with a big ford expedition,,and gas included..but guess what ? employees get screwed again ..no raises..no benefits..just the honor of making the the company a whole load of money..so think twice before you apply to work for TruGreen Landcare..

This is still happening in New York corporate world too. I'm pretty sure the reason I still work as a temp is that due to the "9/11 economy" they "can't afford" to pay me benefits.
It's also used as a reason not to have positions open in the first place, or to lay you off at one slipup (they "can't afford" to keep imperfect employees).\
I was worried that they'd start using Katrina and oil prices as the next excuse. Hasn't happened yet, but I wouldn't be surprised.

If your skills are truly valuable, take them elsewhere! A friend of mine, who was grossly underpaid for his abilities, went to his boss and demanded a raise. His boss said no, so he said he'd go over to such-and-such company who was offering him more money and better benefits, and showed him what his real worth was on paper. His boss caved and not only gave him the raise he was asking for, but later promoted him and gave him ANOTHER raise, to make sure he wouldn't go anywhere else! If it can happen to this guy (who went to a a trade school), it can happen to you!

Sorry to hear what's been going on with your job. I'm from San Diego and even in this day and age, big companies forget that workers like yourself put them where they are at. Maybe the bosses should trade their salary for yours and see how far they can make it.
