I had the pleasure of sitting at a table right next to a couple of gentlemen dressed in formal business attire this morning. I was eating breakfast by myself and had nothing better to do but listen in on their conversation. One of the gentlemen was gleaming and boasting about how he use to work 14-16 hour days to climb the corporate ladder. But now at his new company, he only has to work 12 hour days to beat everyone else out since most folks only work 8-10 hours a day. What the heck is wrong with society that people feel to "win" they need to sacrifice every second of their waking day to a job?

It seems that alot of employers prefer you not have a life so they can take precedence over anything else going on that might need your attention. TrimSpa Lady told me that she climbed up to her position from mine because she 'didn't have a life', and just worked and worked and worked. I thought she lost her marbles, because in a way she implied that I should do the same. However, at the same token, she was not willing to give me the overtime so I could have that chance.... It's like dangling a dollar bill in front of you and yanking it away.... I don't know why they torture us like this. I'm so glad I don't work there anymore.

Actually there is nothing wrong with these people. Working 80 hour weeks is very important and totally normal. This way, when these people are 90 years old and are all sitting around in a nursing home drinking out of their feeding tubes...they can exchange office stories. (NOT!!!!) I for one do my 8 hours and I'm out of here... What corporate ladder? Heck, I'd rather be at home climing my own ladder painting walls or having my son drive me up a ladder. Corporate America is sick in the head, and they will suck all of us dry if we let them. Don't let them!!!!
American Made(03/02/2006)
On the contrary! Corporate America is not sick, it is a beast who knows exactly what its doing! Egging people on and getting them to subscribe to some theory that says "if you give your waking time to me, I'll give you a paycheck that will allow you to buy nice things and a big house...". The next part of that sentence never gets heard because people don't listen. And that is "...that you will never be able enjoy because of all the hours you will be putting in and the stress and illness that will result from your work." Hell guys, I gotta say, it is so nice to be here, among people who think the same way!!!!

I can't think of one person who sat on their death bed and thought "Gee, I wish I would have worked just a little harder to make more money!"

The American Dream. Work your fingers to the bone, spend every hour trying to get ahead, the nice house, the nice car, the nice retirement fund, and you wake up just in time to see your kids going off to college or you wife handing you divorce papers for never being there, or have a heart attack from the stress...and then it's just too late............

OK, you win. Here's your prize : a heart attack, a divorce, and kids who hate you.
