At Will Contracts Should be Outlawed!!

I was recently fired from my job because I asked for help! Really! I was the one of the top sales persons for one of the largest builders in the nation. No warning, no idea it was coming. Because the sales manager didn't know what she was doing I paid the price. I was given no reason for being fired except she said she did not have time to train me. I had an at will contract and an employee is not protected from this abuse. They can fire you for nothing! How is this possible in this day and age? And, I was just 2 weeks away from closings...as an extra abuse I will not get paid my commissions.

Comparable to outsourcing employees instead of paying severance packages... they will always think of the next best thing to make a buck, whether it is 'at will contracts' or something else...

I was let go from a cell phone company I worked for (company A). They had an at will contract with me that said I couldn't work for a competitor for a year after working for company A. Well I took the contract to my lawyer, found out it was VERY illegal contract, and went to work for our largest competiter. When I left, I took with me all my contacts as well as a VERY large account I was working on. Company A didn't know what hit them, I may as well just stolen a check book thats how hard I hit them.

So they tried to sue, saying that I stole these customers from them, I told them that I got the leads myself, they were not given to me, and then they tried to bring up my contract, which was illegal. The judge in the end ordered them to pay me for my vacation days I had, as well as court fee's, and told them to quit wasting his time.

I was not suprised to see that company A was out of biz shortly there after. Sometimes the little guy does win. As for me, company B was so happy that I brought these contacts that they gave me a VERY nice Christmas bonus that year. Saved their 4th quarter from going into the toilet, and ruined another companies.

Putter: That is the best "little guy" story I've heard in a long time! Good for you!! I love it when people don't put up with company crap. Nice going on the taking it into your own hands and using a lawyer.

Sue 'em for the full value of the commissions. What have you got to lose?

"And, I was just 2 weeks away from closings...as an extra abuse I will not get paid my commissions." Oh, how coincidental! You don't think the boss did this on purpose just to save that money, do you? I do. Sue!
