This isn't neccesarily about myself as it is more about a sick and morbid trend in companies today. I know what a company is here for namely to produce a service or product and make money from it. This is a fact. In order to sell or produce a product one must hire people to help with all aspects of the company to make a profit. What I'm bringing up today is a very big issue and that is the people that work and how they are treated and used at times.
I worked for a few companies that did quite well in the Silicon Valley. They thrived in the 80s and 90s. Things changed and things got worse. That is to say the ability to keep a job went away and the wages have dissipated for the average middle class worker. They brought in all these foreigners from asia and everywhere else to take just about every job in the area. I worked in factories where the American worker was the minority. This is another issue. Then again you have a semirural town wher I now live in the South east that has 2 factories that produce about 300 jobs for people of all types and skill levels. The company where I was employed payed very low even for the area we live in. I'm talking about a dollar above minimum wage for entry level and 2 dollars above for experience. The way the non-salary (Or Peon) was treated was outrageous. The company knowing that there was slim pickens for jobs in the area pushed and pushed knowing that no one would quit because of lack of income. The office employees or management got all the credit for work done. For instance, they were given perks and very high wages for doing little or nothing to help with the work load. They were given huge bonuses, taken to lunch and their birthdays were even celebrated. The time clock worker being payed an unsurvivable wage gets none or a small part of this benefit pie. This place was a hell hole.

Don't blame the companies for this, blame our Government for not tightening/enforcing EXISTING regulations due to deep pocketed lobbyists.

Yes, and then the big lie is told: OH, we don't produce enough 'technical' people in the US, we MUST import them ! So the labor pool is swelled with temporary foreign workers, and the wages are driven down. After so many years, if the foreigners don't apply for residence, they just leave...and the company doesn't have to pay pensions, they just hire more temps who can barely speak English, and whose degrees are essentially issued by standing in the right line at university. Did you know that an Indian PhD only has 6 years of education, vs an American PhD's 10 years ? That includes a BS, MS and PhD, folks. India BS takes 3 years, US takes 4; India MS takes 1 year, US takes 2, and India PhD takes 2 years, US takes 4. I got this info FROM an Indian PhD.
