When my boss was hired for the title as food service director she had NO EXPERIENCE! So much it was in the local newspaper. People were protesting her getting the position at the time it has gone to her head and she has targeted me out of currently six managers. one was out on mental disability for one year because of her shenanigans, came back only to find out her job was eliminated which was an office job to a middle central school cafeteria manager. She specialized in office work. She was supposed to come back after the Easter vacation but she never showed up. They would have screaming matches in the bosses office and in the end of the school year she got allN's on her evaluation witch means needs improvement. Now she doesn't have to pay her salary so she is out. It's my turn now. I was told not to speak or talk to the principals unless i have her permission. The kicker is that we deal with him for special catering functions. I e-mailed him this morning and carbon copied my boss. Every time she wants to yell at me which as just about every day she e-mails me to "call her".That is when she lays into me. She is micromanaging me because I hurt my back in work and every time I reinjure myself in work they have to pay for it. She does not like wasting money.I have saved every e-mail she has sent me but I think I got her today. She said that I threatened the principal which I believe I did no such thing and i am contacting my attorney for harassment charges. i hope I am doing the right thing. She gets me so upset when she calls me I cry because i don't want to be insubordinate toward her,
. Today she had me hyperventilating and they increased my depression medication. it is bad enough my stepson committed suicide one year today but she has no compassion for that. She kicked me while i was down. i am truely thinking about getting an attourney about this situation as i am reprimanded befroe the rest of the managers. the only reason why I know is because we have managers meetings once per month and they were surprised that they too have to cc her as well.

How did you threaten the Principal? What did she say you did or said? Also, are you the only one who was given the directive not to speak to the principal? And lets get one thing straight. You hurt your back and it sounds like you go out on disability? Worker's Comp? The company has to pay? Guess what? Yeah they pay a portion, but why the heck do you think you pay taxes! SSDI baby look at your paystub...

I was going to suggest you go after the job yourself but it's obvious you cannot handle the sress involved with the position. If you are on depression medications now, plus other problems, I'd look for another job. Perferably, a job with no lifting and very few employees.

I am thinking that perhaps your foodservice is outsourced--not done "in House"--meaning that you are not employed by the school system but rather Aramark or some other school food-service purveyor...? If this is the case, then your Boss may have the right through the contract to forbid you from talking to the Principal. That is how it works in our school--foodservice is privatized and the only person dealing with the Principal is the head of the cafeteria. If this is the case, you need to go through the foodservice purveyor--not anything in the school.
I can tell you having been a teacher for nearly 20 years that when I am in the cafeteria and see the students being horrible to "the Lunch Ladies" that I yank them out of line and ask them, " How would you feel if someone talked to your Mom like that?" And the response from the kid is always--always--"I'd kick their ass." (Or something to this effect). And then I tell the smart-ass kid, "Well, she is somebody's Mother." This has usually worked and if it doesn't I take them to the discipline office where they are punished!!!:)
One of our Lunch ladies found a bumper sticker years ago and put it up right on the wall behind the cash register where the kids pay that says" Always be nice to your Lunch Lady." Thank-God it is still there!!!
Our Lunch Ladies make pancakes on Friday--even though we went privatized. And before they went Privatized--the best banana bread and the best cakes (and frosting!!!) I've ever had in my whole life! And homemade buns to go with the meal! but since we went private all the good stuff has gone--what a shame. Those sugar cookies were to die--die for! Linda the Baker could run circles around anyone on the Food Channel!
I hope the teachers are nice to you and give the kids hell if they aren't nice to you. Our Lunch Ladies are great--they go out of their way to help--you come in at the end of the lunch period and they will find you what you want--whether they ran out or not--if it is on the menu --they find you fresh stuff. Or find you cheese for your salad when that isn't a regular thing.
Working in a school cafeteria is a very difficult thing--especially if the food is cooked "on site." And they try to make good meals with government provisions--making Italian food when you only have government issued American cheese is a challenge.
God Bless You, Lunch Lady--I have, do and will always be behind you. And my Boss is the biggest Bastard on the planet but regularly recognizes the Lunch Staff--they come into a few meetings a year at the Principal's request and they get a standing ovation (I swear I am NOT lying, here) from the teachers. And at Christmas we take up a collection for them--the teachers giving into a pool for the Lunch Room Staff--and what is collected is divided amongst all who work in the Lunch Room. It is usually 70 bucks per person who works in the Lunch Room.

This just burns me up!!! I know what you mean about special catering functions within the school--there are tons of them--most people do not know this. High pressure.
Look for another job--you don't seem to hate your job--just the circumstances--which are bad.
I don't know if your Boss is evil more so because (at least in my school), many of the Lunch Room Workers are immigrants and have limited English language skills--but I believe this to be the case increasingly so since our foodservice was privatized. Many of the workers are just happy to have a job and (I know for a fact in many cases) get to eat as a "perk" of the job--but they are literally working to put food on the table for their(oftentimes--extended) families. Most are Eastern European and they are so gracious and polite and would do anything to please--because they are nice people and also because they hold teachers in high esteem.
Everybody out there should appreciate any cafeteria worker.
