I need a good attorney to take my case against the company I was working for and which terminated me without good cause or reason.
This job was my only chance to get back on my feet. I will never jeopardize my job. This job was 2 blocks from where I live. I do not have a car now, so it was the dream job for me.
I have no money. I am totally broke. I have no family left. I am by myself.
Now I don't know what to do. I am scared to be on the streets because I have no job anymore.
I was working for the Tarzana Treatment Centers in Tarzana since November 29, 2006 and I was terminated March 29, 2007.
I was doing a great job and I know that I have been wrongfully terminated.
I asked many times to be trained about Corporate Compliance and Licenses.
Every time I was told they are too busy.
I have been the only one to have these two major responsibilities.
For 3 months I heard from him that my performance was very good and that he was very happy with my job performance and my qualifications.
Why after these 3 months did this Director change his mind about me? Below is the clarification you need to hear.
I believe and I am certain that my termination Thursday March 29 is related to the complaint I made to the HR Director on Friday March 9 about his attitude regarding my French accent. This Director and couple other, were making some bad jokes about me. I was very uncomfortable and embarrassed. I felt I was being discriminated against. I believe this Director became angry that I filed this complaint with HR. I believe he took action to terminate me on the pretense that my job performance was not good but that this termination was in fact, related to the complaint I made against him 10 days before.
I have also talked with one of my co-worker. I don't want for him to be in a trouble because he told me if they find out what he told me they will terminate him too.
He told me that Tarzana Treatment Centers terminate people very easy. They terminate people all the time whenever they make a complaint against one of the supervisors or directors.
It happened to his wife last year. He told me that his wife made a complaint in February 2006 against her manager. She was working in the kitchen. After she made her complaint against her manager, they terminated her with the same pretenses that they used with me ... that she was not doing a good job. Of course this is always the reason they use to terminate someone, even if it is a lie.
He told me that he and his wife did not sue the company because he was scared of being terminated too and he has children to support.
I think it's unacceptable that Tarzana Treatment Centers use false reasons to terminate their employees.
In the employee's handbook, it says that employees have the right to file complaints against their supervisors and/or directors.
I remember that Jim Sorg told me one day that the employee's handbook was just a piece of paper and was not important.
This company is very hypocritical.
They refuse to train people. How do they want for the employees to perform a good job with no training?
In my work experience I always have had very good references from my former employers. Everywhere I go I have a good reputation and I am always remembered as an excellent and outstanding employee.
I have decided I will talk to an attorney and will attempt to pursue legal action against Tarzana Treatment Centers for wrongful termination.
The second thing is that I believe I was terminated because I was starting my benefits and I was going to the dentist and vision specialist. These cost money and the company provides these benefits but they don't want to pay for it, so the fact I was beginning to use my benefits was a second reason for them to make the decision to terminate me.
But this job was still for me the best I could hope for. I would never do anything to jeopardize this job.
It was across the street from where I live. Since I do not have a car, it was the dream job for me. A good salary, good benefits, and very, very close to where I live.
In the beginning of my assignment at TTC, the HR coordinator asked me if I like my job. I said that yes I really liked working there.
That was 2 days after I was hired. Then she laughed and told me to tell her that in 3 years.
I think most of the employees have difficulties working at TTC because of directors' and supervisors' attitude. Through their bad policies and rules, they are driving everybody crazy with these rules and regulations.
I have never lied to anybody. What this Director asked my supervisor, to tell the COO about my job performance is lie.
They also terminated me after I asked my supervisor if the responsibility for Corporate Compliance could go to someone else who knows how handle it.
I asked the HR Director if she can ask someone to train me on the Corporate Compliance because he is maybe the best. I was continually refused to have this opportunity to learn to be able to perform properly.
If they think that my job performance was poor when working at TTC, they are responsible because they have refused since the beginning to allow me the opportunity to do my job well.
And I was doing a very good job anyway.
Regarding the licenses and registration no one ever showed me or helped me to do it.
I already renewed many licenses and certifications for all the facilities.
In the meantime it has been brought to my attention that before me, there have been many different people at this same position.
They have to learn how to treat people; they have to learn how to provide their employees training and consideration.
I respect people. I want to be respected. In this company, the employees are treated if they were nothing. Directors and supervisors always want show us that we are nothing and so small.
I need help on this. Now I am very stresses and very depressed. I have no savings and no money.
I am looking for a contingency/pro bono attorney. Thank you very much. I hope you can help me.

Are you in Tarzana, California? I LOVE CALIFORNIA EMPLOYMENT LAWS! I only have one question. How long were you employed at this facility? You don't necessarily need an attorney. You can file directly with the EEOC (Equal Employment Opportunity Commission.) The form will have a list of causes for your complaint. Check off discrimination and race. I'm sure you have a few others, but I do not recall the rest of the options. You will find an attorney much faster to take on your case pro-bono if the EEOC takes on your case. Unfortunately, the majority of attorneys are going to ask for some kind of payment. At the end if you win they will take there cut.

RedVelvet, can Savanna56 apply for unemployment benefits without jeopardizing her case with the EEOC? Looks like retaliation to me.
Savanna56. Of course your employer will fight that too. Don't get emotionally carried away at either office and don't over explain.
Are you American, Canadian or French? I am asking because European workers can be clueless when it comes to the American workplace and need good mentoring by a fellow countryman. At first the lack of workplace protection and disrespect seem unreal....Bonne chance!

She most certainly can file for unemployment and it certainly won't hurt her EEOC claim. In fact, if they deny her as was done to me it would strengthen her case. Key thing to remember as I have written before is although you were fired it does not mean you are not eligible for UI benefits as long as you were not terminated with cause (ie excessive absences (even if you were sick), insubordination, lateness, etc...) Just do not apply online. There is no option for you to select terminated without cause. Call 1-800-300-5616. This is the California unemployment intake number. The website for your State is http://www.edd.ca.gov/uirep/uiloc.html

Just a few questions. I'm sorry that you're going through this, try not to dispair. When you asked HR for the training, did you request it in written form, were there other people present at these times? Did you have a written work evaluation done on you and when? Did you have anyone present beside the HR person when you complained about people making fun of your accent? What state are you in? Maybe your state has a bureau of labor and industries that you can file a complaint with. Also, you can probably file for unemployment benefits in your state. I would advise that you write a full documentation of what has happened to you since the beginning of this job, write down every incident, person you talked to, what was said, the dates, times, places of these incidents, anyone that may have witnessed these icidents, be as precise and as accurate as you can. this will take awhile but it's worth it because you may need to state your case for unemployement. Also, did you receive your last paycheck with any vacation time you had coming to you on March29th? Also, you need to immediately start looking for another job. Have you ever looked on Craigslist? there is a craigslist for almost all major cities. Also, your state employment division will have a website of jobs in your county, city, area. Also, can you talk to your friend again, and find out about anyone, beside his wife, that he knew was fired wrongfully? Maybe you can find a way to call and talk to some of these people about what happened to you. Hang in there!! I believe that everything happens for a reason and sometimes when one door closes another, better one opens. I thinking of you. be somet
