Are You Sick of the Corporate World? There Are Alternatives.

If you have ever thought about leaving your job and working for yourself, there is a great website that will give you a lot of encouragement to do just that. Be warned, he is a little strident in his views. Steve Pavlina had a job - once - and left it to work for himself. His site is full of postings that are insightful and funny. But one of my favorites is his 10 Reasons You Should Never Get a Job

If you are tired of living in a corporate environment and want some thoughts on why you are right - it is NOT the best place to be - have a look at Steve's site. He explains why having a job is not the safest, most secure path. To quote Steve:

"In fact, if you're reasonably intelligent, getting a job is one of the worst things you can do to support yourself. There are far better ways to make a living than selling yourself into indentured servitude."

Of course working for yourself isn't for everyone. But if you've been thinking about it for years and need some resources and encouragement, his site if full of useful information.

Have a look at the site and let me know what you think. I am really interested in your reactions after reading it.

My favorite quote:

When you run into an idiot in the entrepreneurial world, you can turn around and head the other way. When you run into an idiot in the corporate world, you have to turn around and say, “Sorry, boss.”

A very entertaining read!

Well I like most of what he has to say, I just don't like the way he calls people dummies and stupid for having a job. There are many jobs that people want to have that are not available options as self-employment. Such as nurses, ER docs, teachers. There ARE people out there who work for love of what they do and not just the pursuit of money (obviously the case in teaching). But overall I think the article is insightful and I agree. And it's so true that having a job is not stability. I know too many people whose jobs have been downsized or outsourced.

My favorite part of the article was: "Have you noticed that employed people have an almost endless capacity to whine about problems at their companies? But they don’t really want solutions – they just want to vent and make excuses why it’s all someone else’s fault." AMEN!!!

RVF: Thanks! I was thinking about this over the weekend and policemen and firefighters also came to mind. Where on earth would we be if they chose not to work for someone else?
