A clash of actions and words!

AAAAAAGGGGHHHHH!!!! This person drives me crazy!
I used to work in an office full of dynamic, interesting, and mildly artsy-fartsy architects. The ONLY person in the whole office I couldn't stand was my immediate supervisor....we'll call her......Trim Spa Lady (maybe in another rant I'll mention how I gave her that name)...
So my first day in the office, she's engaging, quirky, interesting, and most importantly, available if I need her!
Or, so I thought. As soon as I was put at my 'post' by the front door (I got a receptionist job there), she disappeared nearly completely. I waited a week... two weeks... a month... she NEVER came to check on me to see how I was doing!!!! I had to go to HER just to make sure I wasn't doing anything wrong!!! Yeah, alot of people would say 'no news is good news', but I disagree. In this office, if something is wrong, they won't necessarily tell you, EVEN IF YOU ASK THEM.
I started to wonder if I'd done something to offend her. Yeah, I had a hard time accepting a 'compliment' over my drunken warbling at a recent summer office gathering (never get a karaoke machine for your co-workers!), maybe that was it, but I noticed she never treated me the same as anyone else in the office. Whenever I heard her voice through the office, she was usually having an engaging conversation with someone, laughing and carrying on. Whenever she walked--no--stomped by my desk, she had this hard, irritated expression on her face. Whenever I happened into a room that she was in, if she was alone, did not ever engage in conversation, would not initiate, and was remarkably monosyllabic if I tried to engage in conversation with her EVER. If there was someone else in the room, she'd simply ignore me and talk to that person instead. Call me oversensitive, but to me that is not acceptable social behavior, especially after I've repeatedly expressed concerns to her about it (being diplomatic, of course), and all she does is brush it off and tell me I'm imagining things. I DO NOT IMAGINE THINGS! I'm not on any medications, I'm healthy and normal. I am, however, exceptionally good at reading and interpreting even the subtlest of body language. I paid very close attention to everyone's body language! NOBODY ELSE ACTED LIKE THIS. Am I going crazy???
Trim Spa Lady is just a confusing clash of actions versus words!

Remind you of something?

Rev. Cnubelevit here. It seems quite evident that you either remind her of someone she had an affair with that dumped her you are just better looking than she is and she knows it. ;)

I hope you won't hate me, but I have a different comment to make. First of all... one never EVER EVER drinks too much alcohol at a job related event. Tis a major no-no. And for the love of Gawd...you sang??while under the influence? Sheesh what could you have been thinking? That move alone, may have sealed her opinion of you in her head. Also, it almost sounds as if you are looking for her to be your friend. For what? Who cares? Try becoming distant, aloof, above her... If she thinks she's yanking your chain, she's getting the upper hand..and we peon's cannot let that happen. We must take control wherever and whenever we can. Rock On! Good luck!

She might just be moody, or maybe she has nothing to gain by being nice to you. These people she has engaging conversations with, are they people she can move up in the business if she kisses a$$? I'd personally ignore it and not care. Afterall, you just work there and you aren't expecting to be best friends with these people, right? When you do encounter her, I'd be over the top sweet to her... in a fake way. Best of luck, it isn't fun working in uncomfortable situations..but as long as everyone else is nice I'm sure it will be fine.

This person FAILED the waitress test bigtime. What is the waitress test, you might ask? Here it is: next time you need to know if someone is genuinely nice or a superficial piece of crap, invite them to lunch. Observe how they treat the wait staff. Whatever they display in the way of demeanor toward the server is pretty much what you can expect from them personally. This sneaky little test has never failed me.

Well, I may have imbibed a *little* too much, but everyone else was too drunk themselves to notice. Also, I'm what you'd call a 'cheap date'. I hardly ever drink, so it doesn't take long. However, I'd have to agree that she probably was a tiny bit jealous... She's a little on the fat side and she keeps a bottle of Trim Spa next to her computer. It wasn't doing anything for her, in case anyone is wondering. However, I'll also agree she probably didn't think much of me anyways, and was moody, and didn't feel it necessary to interact with me or be nice all that much. However, there isn't any point. I'm on the hunt for a new fat behind to nuzzle.... ew. Jeez, (you'll never hear a chick say this) women are so dumb and so catty! Ugh...

OK-so maybe she picked up on some vibe you were sending out! and I agree you NEVER EVER get drunk at an office function especially if you are at an entry level position. Good Luck to you!

well, the problem is that I don't know what else I did. Her behavior didn't change right away, not until i refused to accept a compliment (apparently, I'm not too terrible of a singer). Then she acted wierd. I tried to patch things up, but I guess she was insulted, because she was never friendly to me again after that.
