STOP THE PERFUME!

Posted on 11/07/2005 by SickofSmelling

Seriously, everyone needs to read this post. STOP WEARING PERFUME to work. Do you honestly think other people want to smell you? As long as you've showered, I'm sure you smell fine and there is no reason to 'cover up' a smell with so much frickin' perfume. Do you tnink this will get you a pay raise or something? It won't! Just stop wearing perfume to the office, and while I'm at it... don't put any on before you fly either. I hate perfume!

Nothing makes me sick to my stomach faster than getting in an elevator with someone who smells like they emptied a bottle of cologne/perfume on themselves that morning....gross.

Or using a phone after someone with perfume or aftershave just used it. I have spent whole days walking around smelling somebody else's idea of "a nice scent" on my face. Ever try to rub it off while you're stuck in a meeting hoping nobody thinks you chose that scent??

Corporate Ladder Rung: Mailroomgranularity(11/07/2005)
LMFAO! YES!!!!! GROSS. I had to go to a parent teacher conference one night straight from work, right after I had used my boss's phone. I went showed up in a nice pink knit sweater set and reeking of Old Spice and cigarettes!!

Yeah, okay, less is more. HOWEVER, I suspect if you buttercups politely suggested to the offenders that too many scents in one place cause olfactory distress they would get the point. Some office dress codes DO mention the issue of personal aroma...not just artificial scents either. Must be Monday, I'm wearing Chanel(with restraint).

Yiddie(11/09/2005)
Tiredofbeingyourmomma, I think the problem is some people don't know what restraint is... to me, one squirt of perfume is ample - NO MORE! I think people actually become 'ammuned' to their own smell, and they don't realize how powerful a squirt here and a squirt there can be. LETS MAKE IT A GENERAL RULE, NO MORE THAN ONE SQUIRT!

SouthernProgrammer(11/09/2005)
In Latin culture (and I do not mean this offensively) it seems the more perfume...the better.

tiredofbeingyourmomma(11/09/2005)
Yo Yiddie, I do agree: one squirt is enough to shield the wearer from other intrusions...and shouldn't cling to items one leaves behind. I'd prefer people remember me fondly rather than snork my residual with resentment.

caazmoks(11/16/2005)
I agree! The majority of fragrances are now made from synthetic chemicals which can be dangerous to one's health. People who marinate in overpowering perfumes/colognes either have no sense of smell or are just being very rude and selfish. Unless a company is willing to institute a "Fragrance Free" workplace (which most are not willing to undertake); it ends up being a one-on-one situation wherein the individual being adversely affected is left on his/her own to request the wearer cut back or discontinue the use of the offending scent. It is very sad that we who suffer from the ill effects of fragrances have no choice if we get sick from the stench; however, the wearer most definitely has a choice to "wear or not to wear".

Yup, I totally agree. Even more so because when people are sick...it will just make them sicker.
