I DON"T FRICKING BELIEVE THIS!!!!!

I have been working at the same company for 10 years now. I recently left my old position due to a "Boss From Heck" and
over her was a manager who is located at our corporate headquarters and was in that position for seven years.

I always thought he was pretty clueless regarding what was
going on here but today tops everything!

When I left my position I was a bit hurt that he did not at least contact me to ask why or say good luck.

But today he sent an email asking me to look at a problem on a system, I did and fixed the issue. He then said thank
you and congratulations on getting married!

Punch Line? I have been married for the last 16 years to the same (and only) person...

Sounds like you made the right move in getting away from him. How could he not know something like that? He really cares about his employees...obviously.

Even odder is he did not get me confused with someone else! I replied back to his email and said "Uh...but I've been married for 16 years" and he replied back "Oh, well someone said you had gotten married" (paraphrasing). Very wierd.... A lot of us think he is just hanging on until retirement.

My response to such an individual is to say something like: "Since I am no longer employed by your company, I need to charge for my services by the hour. Have your purchasing department contact me to set up an account I can bill my $100 per hour rate to. After I have an account I can bill to, I will be happy to help you with your problem." Trust me on this, your former employer will respect you more than you can possibly imagine. If he doesn't follow your wishes, no work. Working for free dilutes your percieved worth! Bill and don't be ashamed!!!! Chaz

It didn't translate properly. He was making a reference to marital relations, not marriage. He meant to say, "Congratulations on getting screwed."

Chaz - I work for the same company, different department. I should have made that clearer...

OK so you still work for the same company. That means that you could try the good old "put the bosses at each other's throat" game. Just drag your feet on the request and tell your current boss that your old boss is demanding a LOT of your time. Time that you should be applying to your current job. If they're friends, not much will happen, but if they're like most bosses, they're going to try to protect their fifedoms. This could be good for a couple of meetings wherein you can watch them squabble. I tell you this with all caution, however, all office politics has a way of biting you in the posterior -- especially where bosses are concerned. Be careful how you play this game!!
