I work in a drunken frat house of an office

My coworkers drink at lunch all the time! I am so sick of it. In the morning, they rush to get most of their work done and then at lunch they go out, have drinks and come back to work and just laugh and goof off the rest of the afternoon. Once or twice, I've seen one of them come back and sleep. The supervisor has started to join them and doesn't seem to mind all this. Most of them have small children and I've heard them make comments like this is their only time to "get out". I feel like I work in a frat house! These people are fairly young, but the supervisor is getting ready to retire in a year or two. We are a "satellite" office so there's a main branch I can report this to, but I am not sure if it's worth it. I've seen what's happened on tv to other whistle blowers...their life gets harder. I am guessing all will be found out in due time because inevitably it will show in the production results, but I don't want to be "guilty by association". We don't deal with customers and are basically a small "behind the scenes" local type office. The corporate people only to come to visit once or twice a year and I guarantee these frat boys will be on their best behavior then. Thoughts?

Hey! I saw on their new e-card thingy you can send one that is for whistle blowing! LOL I thought of you and this post immediately. Maybe you should send it to the big boss with a note about what's going on in your office?

Two choices here...The first is to continue working hard and ignore others short-comings and/or just act like it doesn't bother you...eventually it will end. Or report it and face the condequences. I'd opt for the first, and even though it sounds like so much fun to join the gang...I think you are smart to be an outsider. One tip of advice, if work is that easy that you can complete tasks and have afternoons free, I'd start to get conserned about job security...

I had a similar situation back in college where most of the workers at the place were college students. Anyway, these jokers would drink (and smoke) the day away. They made me feel like a goody goody. Mistakenly, to win their favor and keep us all out of trouble, I did a lot of the work they were suposed to be doing. It only got worse till one day the "big boss" came in and saw first hand what was going on. I got into just as much trouble because I was making things possible for them to behave this way and most of us got fired. So my advice consists of 2 things: 1: don't make things ANY easier for them and 2: it'll all come out in the wash so just let it solve itself.

or you can take the chance and drop an anonymous tip at the right place. But one never knows what the fallout will be and if, when and how the one in charge will react.
