Check your civil liberties at the door.

In light of some other posts and discussion on other posts, I thought I would open the topic of companies treating people like they're running a Communist state. It seems to be a growing trend that companies think that they have the right to monitor you when you are in their building, ie. taping phone conversations, monitoring e-mail content, voicemails, and video taping employees. Like the post "are we at school, jail or work" they are even monitoring where you go within the building and even the bathroom! I also hear of the practice of making employees swipe in and out with their badges so that reports can be made on exactly what times employees come and go. Does it seem at all to you like we are going BACKWARDS as a working society? As employees it seems like we have to check our civil liberties at the door when we arrive at work! What gives?

I don't know that even going backwards could describe it properly. apparently medieval peasants (prior to the peasant revolt) worked less time for their "lords" than we do for our government, got more holidays, and their lords had to provide a party with beer once a year. unfair treatment got a lords title taken away and the lands given to someone else to watch over for the king. who do we have watching over how we're treated?

I had a buddy that worked for a big convenience store chain. They constantly understaffed. One day, with a non-stop rush going on, a marketing director from the company dropped in, criticizing this and that. He said he wasn't in charge and was trying to deal with a zillion customers. He later found out that he had been written up for this. When he asked that the in-store camera tape be reviewed, he was told it was company property. Imagine being taped while at work and knowing that it would only be used against you, not in support of you! CRIMINAL!!!
