Director Advices Suicide

I had an interesting conversation with one of our directors yesterday.
The 250 of us whose jobs are going to India (via IBM) have been asked to continue to work professionally until our separation date, which, is apparently a big secret right now.
According to this director, (who was retained) the company is afraid we will all leave before we have our brain’s drained.
Anyway, he asked me what I was doing after the morning ops call each day. (which I chair) He implied that no one cared about the work I was doing and that I had nothing to do anyway after the ops call.
I told him frankly that since the announcement I had been spending my afternoons trying to find gainful employment since this job is ending. I said it’s hard with so many in the same boat at the same time.
He suggested that I go home and start the car in a closed garage.

I guess this guy needs to be informed that he's a waste of air and flesh and resources, and should go kill HIMSELF since he's incapable of being a positive contributor to human society.

Marie - being a A-Hole is too good the that kind of a boss ... he's more like the crusty edge of an A-Hole!
I would recommend that if you have any sick-time or vacation - TAKE IT ... NOW!!! I would also be contacting anyone and everyone I could. Try all the temp agencies, call on some employers, friends and family.

Better yet ... write a suicide note, leave it on his desk. Hide between cars in the parking lot where he would normally travel with a full size dummy that looks like you / dressed like you and wait for him to speed through the parking lot. Just as he approaches your hiding place throw the dummy out in front of his car for him to run over!
Opps! Did I just say that?!?

What a disgusting thing to say to you. He doesn't know it but Karma will get to him. I hope you get a job with a competitor and make his life hell. In a perfect world he'd get laid off next and you would be his next boss. You never know it could happen.
When I was in high school a girl named Maribeth tormented the crap out of me. She was a year older very pretty and popular. She made fun of my looks and clothes. She made me so mad I told her look if you don't leave me alone you are going to be a splat on the wall. After that she never bothered me again. About 12 years later I was hired as a paralegal in her office. They told me Maribeth was going to be my secretary. Yes, the look on her face was priceless when they told her. We ended up being friends. She had some really hard knocks in those 12 years that mellowed her like being a divorced single mom. The most ironic thing was she would borrow my clothes and I'd have to hound her to return them. The point is I have seen Karma.
It may not be tomorrow but he will get his. I often wonder when I have the misfortune to deal with these kinds of lowlifes, How did you get this way? Were your parents really mean? Were you bullied on the playground? Were you possessed by the devil?
If you can work for this kind of boss you can work for anyone. He seriously needs slapped across the face.
Please check out usajobs.gov. This is not a placement service its just a posting of government jobs. There are no fees. I hope it helps.

My wife lost her job yesterday.
I’m thinking about our engineering director’s advice.

Don't do it. You would hurt your wife and family so much they would never recover. In the late 70's everyone was losing their jobs. People moved, cut back or went back to school. We all survived it and we are tougher for it. Please, please, please don't do anything rash to yourself.

Hey Lost--
I don't mean any offense here, but you really need to think about your circumstances and your actions. Yes, times are hard, but in this country we tend to live like kings in comparison with the rest of the world.
Taking your director's advice is the easy way out, and is one of the ultimate acts of selfishness. YES, SELFISHNESS. If all you can think about right now is your own misery, you need to wake up and take a look around. There are people who care about you. Your wife needs you. Don't abandon her. Want to make a difference? Stick around. Think about how your actions will affect others. Think about being in THEIR shoes.

Did you see this today?
A husband and wife, apparently distraught over job problems, planned and carried out the murders of their five chilren and their own deaths.
The man reportedly sent a note to a TV station claiming the couple had just been fired from a medical center and they planned the killings together.
KABC-TV reports the man claimed that before the firing, an administrator told them they should not have come to work and told them "You should have blown your brains out."
KABC reports that the man claimed his wife suggested they commit suicide and kill their children so they wouldn't end up with a stranger.
The note says the couple worked as medical technicians at Kaiser Permanente West Los Angeles Medical Center.

WHAT AN A-HOLE!!! You know, this exact thing happened at my workplace (via CSC) and they asked the same thing of us. In our case, they tried to accomplish complacency by telling us that while our roles would be relieved by foreign workers, we should be excited because we'd be moving on to bigger and better things---when they knew damn well they'd be laying off most of us or moving us to crappy jobs and we'd quit. They even would tell us to read "who moved my cheese" to cope with the change, but really that was because they wanted us to go quietly and comply. Shady, shady business these outsourcing companies are in. I feel for you, my friend, and I think you're doing the right thing by looking for work elsewhere. There were so many people I worked with who bought into it and held onto hope and ended up jacked around and either were laid off or who waited until things were so bad that they were completely miserable and jumped at the first job offer just to get out. You're smart and doing the right thing. Keep your chin up and pat yourself on the back for not buying into the outsourcing propaganda---greener pastures are coming for you. Take it from me, I quit right as they wanted me to train my foreign replacement. Felt great!!!
