A True "Tale from the Front"

We come here to vent our frustrations, our grievances, the injustices that corporate America inflicts on the average worker. I want...need to vent a frustration that I have with a real "Tale from the Front". I grew up in a small town in the heartland of America. My closest and dearest friend "Phil'" was there with me from 1st grade. Phil was light hearted, funny and could make anyone smile just by being around. He was the type of guy that would goof on me when I was sick or hurt just to make me laugh. Phil lost his father in Viet Nam when he was six years old and was raised by his saint of a mother and his two sisters in an impoverished part of town. They really never had enough to get by, so I would invite him to stay over on a regular basis every weekend. We would have dinner with my family and then watch the old horror movies on t.v.. We protected each other from the bullies growing up and gave each other support when misfortune came about. We fought, we laughed, we cried and we got sh_t faced on a regular basis. We both joined the military when we were 17...I got my education, got out and went into the private sector but Phil was a lifer. Semper Fi-Ooh Rah. I received a letter today from his older sister. My friend, buddy, confidant and "brother" was killed in the line of duty while serving this country thousands of miles away from home in a war just as useless as Viet Nam. I am ashamed. I am ashamed of myself for whining about my job, I am ashamed of the corporate entities that mistreat the great people of this country and mostly I am ashamed of a government that kills it's people for oil.

I am so sorry. I cried when I read your post. Life is so unfair. Some americans don't appreciate the freedoms we have or understand the injustice in the world. They buy the mocha double frappichino with whip cream and don't stop to think of the people behind the counter. They stab their co-workers in the back to get ahead and lie cheat and steal, short of murder to keep buying into the stupid things we are told we need, when all we really need is that trusted friend. You all know the one I mean, the one we stayed up with all night and skinned our knees, climbed trees, went fishing with, told each other about your first kiss, etc. I am sorry for your loss. You are in my thoughts.

I am so sorry to hear about the loss of your friend. Sometimes a loss like this can help us to realize the big picture in life, and what is important to us. Many people take life-altering paths when someone close to them passes. You start to think that your time could come up just as quick, and you'd better be living your life how you want to in the time you have left on this planet. My prayers go out to his family and the remaining men overseas...
