Whether you're looking to pick up some extra cash for the holidays or you're looking to get into a new part-time job, now is the time when retailers are hiring. If you live anywhere near a mall or a commercialized area, this is the perfect time to land that part-time job because you'll have many businesses to choose from.
Since so many retailers are hiring for the holidays and need to fill the positions in the immediate future, it's easy for a potential candidate to slip into the attitude of "they need me more than I need them". To help be the best candidate you can be, I've linked to a CareerBuilder article with some good tips for approaching a seasonal retail job. Most are common sense, but always good reminders.
...with all of the retail opportunities out there, it's a walk in the park to nail down a position, right?
Wrong. Retailers are looking for employees who are motivated, enthusiastic, and have a good customer service attitude – not just bodies to stand behind a counter. Pursuing a retail position – even if it is a temporary holiday position – should be done with the same professionalism and dedication as any other job search.

Great post! The fact is that a good sideline job can add untold thousands to your bottom line without major hassles IF you present yourself well. I'm currently working for a taxi and delivery service on the side. I brought a nice couple from South Africa to the airport about 100 miles away and made nearly 300 bucks. The company calls me in advance when they need help. I'm reliable and set my own schedule with them. Getting involved with a quality retail deal can mean extra cash when you want it YEAR ROUND, not to mention discounts, etc.
