As we try and kick back a little on this Labor Day weekend 2006, I'd like to thank the folks at JobSchmob.com and all those who submitted responses and letters to me here at Professional Confessional.
I've been preachy at times, but it's because of the passion I feel. We know that many workplaces are toxic, often at their own expense. We know that people with personal issues are often allowed to abuse their peers. We know that workplace violence, from high-profile shootings to serial bullying and mobbing are an all-too-common occurance.
People that join a business, company, or corporation need to make it known every day and every way that they are there to do work-period. It's called professionalism. It means zero tolerance for unprofessional behavior. It disallows gossip and backstabbing, sabotage and silence. It strives for communication, cooperation, and mutual support at every instance.
It won't be easy. At the same time, our economy's ability to grow and thrive depends on it. A news report today (8/31) says a respected business forum is predicting a recession.
